History

In 1990 few likeminded people came together to establish an organization under the name of National Association for the Blind West Bengal Branch to support the visually challenged people in their Education, Livelihood Generation and Social and Economic Empowerment. Establishment of Braille Libraries, Braille Press, Audio Recording Studio were some of the major activities of the organization. Though initially organization did not achieve sufficient progress in the field of upliftment of the visually challenged since 2004.

From 2005 under the able leadership of Dr. Kanchan Gaba the organization slowly started gaining momentum.

As the organization was registered with Department of Technical Education under Government of West Bengal, in 2012 a notice had been served to the organization to change its name. As per Name and Emblem Act no private organization delivering government certification in the field of mainstream education or Technical Education cannot use words like national, India or Hindustan as prefix to their name.

Receiving the notice the organization has decided to change its name from National Association for the Blind West Bengal State Branch to Turnstone Global. Then the members also decided to widen the horizon of organization’s activities manifold, be it’s geographical area or the target beneficiaries.

Thus from a 10 square feet rented accommodation presently the organization operates in 11 states, 24 cities and 200 gram Panchayat. From handful beneficiaries of visually challenged persons presently the organization serve to more than a lakh beneficiaries in a year and thousands of them are getting benefited regularly by various means like getting dry ration kit, cooked protein food, flexible learning, health initiatives, skill development or livelihood generation training etc.
