Awareness for Parents of Children with Special Needs with Samagra Siksha Mission:
Survey reveals that children with special needs (CWSN) are often secluded from any kind of social participation including education. They remain within the confinement of their homes. Lack of awareness among parents about what these children can do and achieve is primary cause of such seclusion.
Hence to create awareness among the parents of children with special needs, Paschim Banga Samagra Siksha Mission, in association with NGOs conducts regular counselling sessions for such parents.
Turnstone Global is selected to provide parental counselling to parents of CWSN in all circles of the districts of Cooch Behar, Uttar Dinajpur, Dakshin Dinajpur, Malda and Birbhum. At every circle, a 2-days long orientation programme are organised. Objective is to motivate parents of CWSN to stop seclusion of their children and send them to schools. The parents are also made aware of rights of CWSN as per prevailing laws and Acts. Audio-visual shows are also being organised to motivate the parents. In addition, various equipment and assistive devices available to provide support to CWSN are also demonstrated. Till date 26,000 families have been covered under this orientation programme across the 6 districts.
