Awareness on HIV
HIV has become a dreaded disease of the 21st century, especially in third world countries. Although the disease is transmitted by blood contact only, numerous of misconceptions remain in minds of people which lead to social boycott of affected persons.
To drive off the misconceptions, Turnstone Global undertakes a strong campaign in unban as well as rural areas. Extensive awareness programmes has been taken up with the target group among whom such awareness is mandatory and our target group are students of high schools, their guardians, truck drivers associations, sex workers and so on. We started this awareness programme in three districts of West Bengal i.e Siliguri, Birbhum and Purulia. At each of these places two days extensive seminars, discussions, debates. slide presentation, stage acting, street shows, film shows are being organised. We got a huge response from all target groups. In our discussion we successfully made the people understand regarding the development and infection of HIV, progression of the disease, mode of transmission, safety measures to opt for preventing the disease, after exposure necessary steps to be followed, boon of a healthy conjugal life and so on. At all of our three centres few community health workers have been appointed after completion of our awareness camps to make a follow up on a weekly basis as well to maintain a healthy liaison with all our high risk target group to prevent further unprotected exposure. We have a vision to eradicate HIV from the three districts of Siliguri, Birbhum and Purulia in West Bengal by 2030 and to provide best care (medical, psychological, social) to the victims of HIV/AIDS in these areas.
