“The Braille books are very expensive and, more importantly not always available, this library is like oasis for student like me.” – A visually impaired student expresses her feelings about facility of the library.
With the cooperation of University of Calcutta, Turnstone Global set up a Braille and Digital Audio Library at College Street Campus of the University of Calcutta in 2009. It was inaugurated by then Governor His Excellence Sri Gopal Krishna Gandhi which is now giving service to more than 290 blind students and anyone whom Turnstone Global recommends. This is the first of its kind of library in Eastern India. This endeavour is of immense help to Visually Challenged Students aspiring higher education. Every year new Braille and Digital Audio titles are being added to enrich the collection at this library. Works of William Shakespeare, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Rabindra Nath Tagore, Sharat Chandra Chattopadhyay, Sharadindu Bandopadhyay and numerous other eminent authors have been made accessible to the sightless persons through this Braille and Digital Audio Library. There is a sound proof studio which has the facilities to record books in modern software like Daisy.
