The person who cannot see the light, for them education is the only candle in the dark.
Turnstone Global implements projects for the marginalized and underprivileged section of the population with an emphasis regarding the needs of people who are differently able.
The Braille Press is one of the key intervention of Turnstone Global regarding empowerment of people who are visually impaired.
To fulfil the gap between requirement of Braille Books for the Visually Challenged and availability of such books, Turnstone Global, with support from Cognizant Foundation, set up a Braille Press in 2009. Since its inception, this unit is producing approximately 275 Braille titles every year. Immortal works Of Rabindranath Tagore like Geetanjali, Geetobitan and several other famous literary works have been embossed in Braille for the first time from this Braille Press unit.
On the occasion of 150th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda we have published 40 titles of his work from this unit with the collaboration of Ministry of Social Welfare Government of West Bengal.
Not only West Bengal but blind students from many other states such as Maharashtra, Tamilnadu, Tripura etc are enhancing their knowledge by getting these Braille books published from our Braille press. We are proud to share that we won the ‘Best Braille press award’ from the Government of West Bengal in 2011.
From this unit we publish books in Braille and, supply it to various Government and Non-government institutions that are working with people who are visually impaired.
Turnstone Global also played an important role in popularising Braille at all levels and inspired both Government and Non-government entities to set up Braille Libraries inside their respected institutes.
