Turnstone Global creates Self Help Groups (SHGs) in the rural area and urban slum to make women empowered. Turnstone Global feels that collective efforts of women can bring sea change in their life. We have noticed that not only women learn better in a group, they are also be able to solve their personal issues together. So forth Turnstone Global has created 958 self-help group with 2014 women.

Turnstone Global follows the following steps to empower the women through various SHGs

First we do baseline survey in the targeted area
Identify the women who are willing to participate in the self-help group
Counselling of the women who have capability to do the work but put excuses
Implement Training on particular skills such as Jute product, Cleanness product, (Soap, Hand wash, Phenyl, Dish cleaner etc), Terracotta idols, Soft toys, along with soft skill training.

After completion certificate are being distributed.
We also connect self-help group in the right market. We handhold the SHGs unless they fully understand the process of forward and backward market linkages.
Team Turnstone Global also helps the SHGs to sale their products in different melas and corporate fairs under the banner of Turnstone Global.
To upscale their business further we also support women to procure loans from the bank. Not only that we also give interest free loan in group.

Story from the Field :

“I needed a small loan of Rs. 10,000, but it was very difficult for me to get such small loans .” – This is a very common problem for small-scale entrepreneurs like Ms. Sankari Biswas, who is doing a business of Ladies Garments making.

They need loan for business enhancement but find it very difficult to get that support from various financial institutions; additionally if they take loans from private money lenders then they charge very high rate of interest.

The group received loan from Turnstone Global on a very low rate of interest and, then the group distributed the loan amount equal to each member. The group leader collects the weekly repayments and submits it to Turnstone Global.

This method is not only solving the financial problems of women entrepreneurs; it is also creating bond among them and enhance their personal relationship, which they will always cherish in their mind

Right now 500 women are getting benefited under this project.
